Child Protection Training Workshop

Event description

Whilst teaching you have a legal duty to safeguard children and young people with whom you work. This can be challenging in the field of music where so much teaching occurs in isolation.

You might work on a one to one basis or with small groups. You may give lessons in your home, at the students’ homes, or at school; so it is vitally important that you know how to protect your students and keep them safe from harm.

This workshop also explores how to protect yourself from false or malicious allegations. We will discuss professional standards of behaviour which will help to keep you safe from such allegations.

This workshop aims to:

Develop awareness of, and the ability to act on concerns about, the safety and welfare of children and young people Develop awareness of safer working practices for musicians who work with young people.

By the end of the training participants will be aware of:

Background to the legislative framework within which children’s welfare is safeguarded and promoted What to do if they have concerns about children in order to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, including those who are suffering, or at risk of suffering, significant harm What will happen once they have informed someone about those concerns Safe working practices in music teaching
