A Grandparent’s Perspective of Babigloo

A grandparent’s perspective of Babigloo.

We love having the wider family come to our weekly sessions, end of 'Programme Celebration' or one of our special 'Shows". Whether it's as a one-off visitor or the main carer, it's always a joyful experience. Jonah's Grandad (pictured) drove all the way from Sussex with his Saxaphone to guest in our trio for the Festive Show we performed at Forest Forge Theatre last December! Rose's Grandma and Grandpa came to her Celebration on Friday and said they'd never seen anything like it for babies and that it had made "such a difference" to the family. And Oliver's Granny plays Clarinet as part one of our Trio's!

Here's the view of Grace's Grandparents who look after her once a week and have attended Babigloo from October this year:

Both Peter and I have observed Grace really enjoying the music and the presentation of each session. She has responded much more when we sing to her when she is with us. She engages with the dancing during each session really well and Grace’s face lights up as we giggle to each rhythm.

Peter and I are very keen on classical music, therefore this project has been a delight to get involved with. Grace’s mother Katy is a music academic and when she came to one of the sessions, she was very impressed with the professionalism and delivery.

Driving home from Babigloo our granddaughter will make rythmical sounds, some of which are recognisable. There is no doubt that for us to be a part of the Babigloo experience with Grace has been helpful, as we support the development of our grandchild.

Music has another layer of power when it's shared across generations and on Friday we had two older sisters attend (pre-school age) and it was a truly joyous occasion!

So thank you to all the participants at our sessions, especially the Grandparents (who don't need to sit or kneel on the floor!) and for all the encouragement and feedback you give the guest musicians and music leaders. And of course a big thank you to Youth Music for its supportive, creative and essential funding for high quality musical experiences fro the youngest children (0-12 months and 1-3 years).
