Fri-Sun April 4-6: EXPRESSING THE INEXPRESSIBLE– ways into musical improvisation at Llansor Mill

An essential weekend for music teachers and workshop leaders, exploring the key features of group improvisation through practical activity. Led by one of the UK's leading music educators, David Ashworth.

Activities which which enable you to devise stimulating starting points and structures for improvisation; nurture musical development and instrumental playing skills and enable you to assess improvisation and provide quality feedback for your young music makers.

By working through the practical activities together, you will learn how to facilitate effective sessions in classrooms, workshops and informal gatherings AND improve your own skills.

After a relaxing and stimulating weekend with good company & fine food in the beautiful and tranquil surroundings of Llansor Mill, you will come away with an understanding of why improvisation is so important for developing musicianship. You will have an understanding of using this as a tool for addressing inclusion issues, for stretching more able students and how it can help you teach and make music more creatively.

All course participants will receive a USB stick with resources, including:

  • detailed breakdown of key activities
  • a strategic guide on working with improvisation in educational settings
  • “Guidelines” document on developing criteria for assessment of improvisation
  • handy tips on making your sessions musical and creative
