XLR Sessions get lyrical!

The second week of XLR Sessions gave the young musicians the opportunity to develop their lyrical skills, and dabble in tech based live sampling!

Last night the XLR Sessions group discussed creative ways to write lyrics, and split into 2 groups to start work on their ideas. One group created lyrics about music suitable for an upbeat party track, whilst the other group wrote a song about their exam woes.

In addition, Bim, one of the projects mentors, is an estbalised experiemntal musician, and he created a digital setup for the musicians to try out some alternative music making methods. His setup included: - Ableton Live - Ableton sample pads - Akai MPK keyboard triggers - Korg PadKontrol - Glockenspeil - Alto Saxophone - 6 channel mixer - Shure SM58 microphone

Bim showed them some pre-sampled elements, and then got the young people to live sample Bim playing Saxophone, and it ended up as a jam with a MIDI Drumkit, sax and pad controlled bass and synths!

Our team last night was:  James Kennaby (aka Vice) – Producer / MC  Phoebe Langton Beck – MC / Singer Songwriter  Sophie Hosken Taylor – Singer Songwriter  Bim – Producer / DJ / Multiinstrumentalist  Joss Murray - Trumpeter / Composer
