What's working for a music charity like (Blog 1 - Tilly)

"Make Some Noise have enabled me to develop a lot of transferrable skills by helping me secure a placement in the Make Some Noise office."

Make Some Noise opened its doors so that emerging musicians can learn what it's like to work for a music charity and hopefully develop their employability skills by learning what is needed from the musicleaders of the future.

Here is Tilly's blog

"Make Some Noise have enabled me to develop a lot of transferrable skills by helping me secure a placement in the Make Some Noise office. I feel like I have been treated like a member of staff here, and have enjoyed being given responsibilities such as helping towards events on days outside of the office, and social media campaigns and data input.

Ever since the first planning stages, before the placement started properly, Make Some Noise have been focussed on making sure that while I am helping them, the tasks are also helping me to learn about the roles involved with the charity and also different parts of working life. I loved meeting all of the music leaders at charity meetings, and getting to know some of them at an all day workshop with beat boxer Shlomo, which was really fun.

Some of the specific areas I think I have improved in since starting this placement are general organisation, communication (with colleagues), creativity (and increased knowledge) in terms of effective social media, and also confidence in helping deliver a small workshop to a group of people.

I think that learning how to use Substance Views to keep track of data collected in Make Some Noise workshops is really useful as the structure of the database could be used for any different organisation, which is something I think I could now do for them or help them with.

I definitely feel that having been on this placement will mean that when I apply for jobs after graduating next year, I will be more confident in my skills, and feel prepared to apply them to different jobs or companies."
