My Training With MusicNet East

The Beginning of my musical training...

I've always been close to my music tutor at Luton 6th Form. She is mainly part of the reason I work so hard. She made me believe in myself and she showed me what I was capable of. She came across an ad for training for informal music project managers, told me to apply and here I am. Writing about my experience. To be honest with you, I didn't know what to expect. The first of three days was a little daunghting, not just the course but the country roads! I almost lost a tire on my journey down to Hatfield, well not really. We began the day in what seemed like a teacher training course, lots of bubbly people and snacks (Love a good snack) and a talk from the course leaders. In the afternoon, we had a taster workshop which was Junk Percussion. Tons of fun and very inspiring, you can make music with anything and this workshop really made you explore sounds you can make on non traditional instruments such as flip flops and pipes. I know, sounds insane but it was wonderful.

On our second day, we were in Cambridge. This day was a little bit more technical as we were introduced to the fundamentals of planning and applying for funding. There was a LOT to go through and I found this quite difficult to get my head round completely but there were plenty of handouts to take home and read over so that was reasurring.

On our final day we were in Zinc Arts, Essex. Lot's of travelling but even that was a wonderful experience, seeing all these new places. We meet a lovely lady called Sonia Cakebread who was kind enough to share her experiences with us and answer any of our burning questions. After her tal she gave us a tour of the venue which is stunning. In the afternoon, we had another taster session in which we learnt how to play the Ukelele. This was by far my favorire part of the training, it even inspired me to get my guitar out of the garage and get practising.

Overall, I met some really lovely people and learnt invaluable information about planning and running projects and how to apply for much needed funding. If the oppertunity rises for you to take part in a training course like this one. I highly reccomend it.

Zoe, over and out :)
