For todays session we was decided to concentrate on Music production and the YP expressed a desire to look at several forms of production from hardware to software. So the session was based around using Native Instruments Maschine and Logic Pro.

The YP wanted to make House and Trap music so we evaluated the advantages and using the Maschine hardware or Logic. We decided that Maschine was more suited to Trap and Logic would work better for House so we split the session into two with the YP making contributions to both tracks.

This worked really well on several levels as it not only encouraged collaboration but it also enabled the YP to make their own assessment of the differing approaches and come to their own conclusions. I think they both enjoyed the tactile elements of Maschine but also found a value in the ease of arranging in Logic with the overall conclusion being that a degree of flexibility is needed in approach in order to get the best results.

This was a great lesson for them as there are times when producer may have to work on software/hardware they are unfamiliar with but still need to achieve a high standard.
