In todays session we set the YP the monumental task of creating the basics of a production and laying down some vocal ideas. As one of the YP is working on their production skills and another on vocals it was the perfect task for some quality collaborative work.

We started the session by laying down the foundation of the beat and once we had some chords down our vocalist started working on the melody and lyrics. This also involved the YP evaluating and contributing to each others elements and led to an outcome that everyone involved was very happy with.

The session was a great experience for the YP going forward as this type of scenario is common place within the music industry and is a great way of developing their communication skills and ability to work within the pressure of time constraints etc. The sesion also highlighted the importance of communicating constructive criticism in a non-judgemental manner as the studio needs to be a place where people can freely express their opinions. All of the YP seemed to grasp this concept well and their interaction was superb.

This approach also helps to develop key compositional and arrangement skills especially in terms of making a song that works for everybody involved.
