Todays session saw the introduction of new participant and, as such, was tailored around his desire to learn how to produce Hip Hop.

We started with a brief overview of some common approaches to producing Hip Hop, from sampling to playing in keyboard parts and drum programming. It was then decided that, as a result of the YP's love of 90's Hip Hop that we would take the sampling approach. Luckily the first song we played had a great sample in it so, after assuring the YP that finding a good sample with the first track never happens, we proceeded to cut up the sample and lay down a few ideas using techniques such as filtering and layering sounds. We then programmed some drums and started to arrange the idea.

The YP had some great ideas and is clearly talented and this made the process very quick and meant that we explore some of the more advanced techniques.

We left the session with a solid foundation and the aim of recording some of the YP's lyrics and writing a song.

Great first session...looking forward to the next one.
