BBC Ten Pieces Secondary

Building on the success of BBC Music’s Ten Pieces, the BBC is extending the ground-breaking initiative to secondary schools, opening up the world of classical music to children aged 11 and above, and inspiring them to respond creatively to the repertoire.

An inspirational new cinematic film will feature stunning footage of the BBC Philharmonic performing a new selection of orchestral music, representing a wide range of styles and eras relevant to the music curriculum.  Each piece will be introduced by celebrity presenters known to the age group, using an engaging mix of live action and animation.   Described by Robin Hammerton, HMI, National Lead for Music at Ofsted as ‘One of the best things to happen in music education’ this first year has already proven to be a great success with nearly half the primary schools in the UK engaged with the initiative.  Over 120, 000 children watched the film at the cinema and nearly 10,000 DVDs of the film have been sent out to primary schools.   Stakeholder Partners supporting the project include the Arts Council England, Arts Council Wales, Arts Council N. Ireland, Creative Scotland, Music Mark, Youth Music, ABO and Into Film.   We would love you to get involved by signing up to become a Ten Pieces Champion. There are already 240+ music hubs/services and arts organisations signed up across the U.K. supporting and working with schools on the project.  Please e-mail tenpieces@bbc.co.uk to receive further information and the sign up form.   Take a look at the Ten Pieces website now to find out more.
