BBC Ten Pieces

Ten Pieces is an exciting new initiative for primary schools, led by BBC Learning and the BBC Performing Groups, focusing on classical music and creativity.

Book seats for free cinema screenings!

Schools can reserve places now for a FREE SCREENING of a stunning new BBC film, designed to introduce a generation of children to classical music.

Fronted by Barney Harwood from Blue Peter, the film will feature performances of 10 pieces of classical music from baroque to contemporary. Each piece of music will be introduced by an actor, presenter or musician and performed by the world-class BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

After a successful pilot in 2013, the film is being screened in cinemas nationwide during the week of 6th October 2014. Places for the screenings are strictly limited and will be allocated on a first come, first-served basis – so book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

About the project

Ten Pieces is a new initiative for primary schools and aims to open up the world of classical music to children and inspire them to use the music as a stimulus for their own creativity. The project will culminate in a major celebratory finale in the summer of 2015, showcasing some of the children's creative responses to the repertoire from across the country.

The project will help schools to deliver key aspects of the National Curriculum including learning about the works of great composers, composing and performing.

Stakeholder Partners include the Arts Council England, Arts Council Wales, Arts Council Northern Ireland, Creative Scotland, Music Mark, Youth Music, ABO and Into Film.

In addition there will be dozens of Ten Pieces Champions supporting the initiative at a local level, including Music Education Hubs, Music Services, and specialist music, dance and arts organisations.
