Our Street Our Song Early Years Project - Sheffield - SONGBOOK

One of the final resources produced for the Our Street Our Song project is this Songbook of original songs written by the children.  We asked each of our 4 musicians to chose 1 or 2 songs from each of the Settings, and write a short piece for each to explain how they came about.   There’s been so much amazing material produced from the children that they had to make some very difficult choices.

This Songbook celebrates our two year long music project in 15 SSELP* schools and 3 partner nurseries in the south east of Sheffield.   Each setting has had regular sessions with one of the professional musicians in the team, and the practitioners in school have received training over the project to enable them to carry on with regular music sessions in school both through the year, and after the project has finished.

The children have learned about music through games and activities and have been singing familiar songs, but this year they have also been focussing on making up their own songs taking inspiration from their own environment and heritage. and these are the ones we are celebrating in this Songbook.

This Songbook will be distributed widely as a resource and souvenir to the participating Settings and their families and we will be sending it to them in various formats to enable them to view on devices or make their own print copies.   We will also use it as a practice sharing tool and distribute it widely around our partner organisations and professional networks.
