#360participation #participationmatters

Day 1  Today I started my journey into discovering the 360 degree participation model. Training which brings together youth professionals from Lithuania, Norway and England.

The morning kicked of with an array of ice breakers which were brilliant, breaking down the fear factor of communication challenges and cultural differences. Some of these I had done before however it's always great to not only refresh the memory but also hear how others provide instructions. I've popped the titles at the bottom however if you want to know more just message!

Through discussions we began to further develop our understanding of participation and the multiple experiential  levels which are associated. We were asked to complete some self reflection on the groups we participate in, within our personal life's. We thought about how these have changed us and helped us develop over time. Currently the group which is impacting myself the most is my work colleagues, not only are they are providing opportunities to influence and develop strategies but pushing training experiences to develop my knowledge inline with our changing environment. Through reflection I was able to see the development and grow I have made over the last 18 months along side next steps to continue my development.

This was then followed by two questions 'what is participation?' and 'why is it important? Breaking out into groups we discussed participation in more detail. This opened the door to finding out more about our peers. I've greatly enjoyed hearing about everyone's work especially those which eco music based provision to Norway! This just shouts potential partnership working and amazing opportunities for young people!

So after today why is participation important to me? For myself participation helps young people to understand that their voice is important in influencing the development of their lives, community and social groups. It helps them understand  processes to succeed and in being heard. Through participation not only is knowledge developed but also soft and employability skills, opening the doors to their future.

I'd like to finish today asking you for your thoughts. What is participation to you and why is it important? Post your comments below!
