BIG MUSICAL! BIG COMEDY! BIG HAIR! BIG NIGHT OUT!!!

At the end of January and to celebrate the new year, Rock Upon Tyne put on our dancing shoes, coiffed our hair and headed back to the 60's. At Newcastle's Theatre Royal the UK tour of the hit musical 'HAIRSPRAY' was in full swing and we rocked up to the best night on the town!

The curtains opened to a non-stop, breathtaking explosion of colour, costumes, lighting, dancing and fantastic songs. Our heroine, Tracy Turnblad, stepped out of bed with a song and a dance and in her heart and, with her dream to make it as a dancer on the Corny Collins Show, she becomes determined to make every day Negro Day. Challenging racism and fattism with humour and determination, while busting some great moves, Tracy wins the heart of the Corny Collins Show dreamboy, Link Larkin, and with the help of her friends, and a visit to the clink, she achieves her dream!

The cast, including Peter Duncan (Blue Peter) as Wilbur Turnblat and Claire Sweeney (Brookeside) as Velma Von Tussle, were fantastic and kept the excitment and energy of this dynamite show going right until the very end. You can find out more about them here: http://www.hairsprayuktour.com/cast/

This was a fantastic show and we would totally recommend you go see it if you get the chance. Shake a tail feather!
