Music Teacher Qualification

Some of you may be thinking about taking our Music Leader Training (MLT) course. Here are a few questions we often get asked regarding the qualification you get on completion of the course.

What qualification(s) will I get on completion of this course?

You will gain a City & Guilds level 3 Qualification in Education and Training (EAT)

What is this qualification?

It was formerly known as the PTLLS qualification - Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector - It is now called an Education and Training (EaT) City & Guilds qualification. Essentially, this means that it is the threshold qualification that you need to be able to work in the non-statutory sector.

What does ‘non-statutory sector’ mean?

In simple terms, it basically means an organisation that doesn’t have a government curriculum. This includes: Further education, youth work, hospitals, prisons, youth service, community organisations.

What can I do with this qualification? What career(s) can this lead to?

This qualification can help you to progress in teaching/training and support roles in a wide range of organisations in the lifelong learning sector. These include:

Public sector organisations Private sector organisations Further Education, Adult and Community Education.

What is covered on the course?

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an introduction to teaching that will give an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions and how to assess and give constructive feedback.

The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required by teachers in the further education and skills sector, such as: • the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training • inclusive teaching and learning approaches • assessment of learners • facilitating learning and development for individuals • facilitating learning and development in groups • understanding principles and practices of assessment
