Music therapy for young people with ADHD

We are getting close to finalising our music project, we have a few sneak peak photos of our behind the scenes video shoot for our music video titled "You think you know me?"

We have had in total 28 young people that engaged with our music project over the past 18 months. Our target group of young people diagnosed with ADHD aged between 11-19 years were given the choice to participate in our weekly 1 hour music sessions that ran during our youth club. Due to individuals needs and concentration spans we allowed young people to drop in and out of the sessions so that they could participate as and when they wanted without the added pressure of having to complete a full hour which in some instances could raise anxiety and confidence.

With the option to participate for short periods of time in sessions that suited their preferences such as writing lyrics, rapping, singing, music production and editing we were able to focus on their strengths which in return increased their confidence and got them engaged more frequently.

We have managed to produce a mixture of 3 lively, energetic and quirky tracks that reflect strongly on their condition and uniqueness along with 3 powerful messages which have been expressed through rap and singing to send out awareness of ADHD as a condition and how they see life on a daily basis.

The young people have titled the album "The Crazy Bunch" although sensitive referring to a neurobiological condition as "crazy" this was done on purpose to get the attention of society for them to then listen to the messages delivered from the album.
