Youth Music Project at Salmon: Building Young People's Development Through Music

The Salmon Youth Centre has been working with young people to work on their personal and creative development through the Youth Music Project.

At present we are delivering 6hrs of structured music sessions a week in addition to 5 hrs a week of drop in studio time.  We have delivered 136 music sessions so farThere have been 40 10-19 year olds taking part in the project with, 27 of these in the 10-13s age bracket and 14 14-19 year olds. We have trained up 3 volunteers to help run music sessions and have invited 5 arts ambassadors to come down and inspire young people with their stories and experience of the music industry. We have 2 music mentors working weekly with our young people. We have had 3 live lounge performances with 85 young people in attendance.

During the Youth Music Project we have undergone various activities such as researching various music elements, presentations on what the young people collated, Creative writing workshops, Song writing workshops, Group Discussions on specific music topics, Stage Performance Workshops and young people performing live in front of audiences.
