Project Management - Tuned In

I’m Amy, AKA A Me B, a Singer, Songwriter, Producer, DJ from Greater Manchester.

I started my musical career when I was about 11, producing my own beats on my PS2 and then adding my own lyrical ideas. I’ve enjoyed the experiences I’ve had in my career so far including sharing the stage with artists such as Tinchy Stryder, DJ Ironik and Akala

As part of my portfolio career, I’ve also worked with Plugged-In as a freelance music practitioner in Warrington, Halton and Cheshire West for approximately 6 years.

Much of the work I do involves spending time with young women in some of the most deprived communities in the area and the country in order to help them to develop their musical skills, confidence and self- esteem.

This year I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to develop my skills as a project manager as part of the Plugged In – Pull Together, Fund B work, supported by Youth Music.

Initially, I attended a series of training sessions alongside Marta, a youth worker from Warrington Youth Service. These introduced me to aspects of my work that I hadn’t experienced before including where to look for funding and how to apply, how to manage other people, how to improve the quality of the work I do, how to set outcomes and collect important data to show these had been met. I also learned about how the work I do fits in with larger partners Regionally and Nationally.

The training and support helped me to plan and oversee the delivery of a short project -12 workshops at Orford Youth Base, working with the Orford Young Women’s group.

Involvement in the project has been of great benefit to me personally. I feel that I have a better idea of how to work more effectively with the young people’s organisations we work alongside and that they have a better idea of what is involved in the work we do. I’m more confident planning and evaluating the work of the small team that I work with and look forward to taking on more responsibilities in the near future.

The delivery of the project was very successful and thoroughly enjoyed by the young female participants who developed skills, performed on stage, spoke to local female guest speakers and visited a professional recording studio in Manchester to record an original song.

I also learned how to put together a promotional video demonstrating some of the work that took place. Here’s a link to the footage taken at Blueprint Studios, Manchester:
