NYMAZ SEND Music Network Conference 2013!

Join us for a day exploring how the latest technologies can enable children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to participate in music-making. The conference will introduce you to innovative ideas and practical techniques as well as giving you the opportunity to network and share learning with your peers.

NYMAZ SEND Music Network Annual Conference 2013 23 March 2013 The Dales School, Northallerton, DL7 9QW 10:00am - 4:00pm

Who Should Attend? The conference is aimed at music leaders, Special School staff, SEN Coordinators, Local Authority staff and others who work in the sector. You do not need to be technology 'whiz' to benefit from this conference. Sessions will include practical workshops on how schools and organisations work with young people with SEND using different technology options including, simple and cost effecient ways to assist in making concepts such as music more accessible.

Tickets are £40 (concessions £20 for students and staff from North Yorkshire special schools) including lunch and refreshments, and must be booked in advance All those working in the sector are welcome, regardless of whether they are members of the NYMAZ SEND Network.

Keynote: Clarence Adoo – Professional Musician 'From the intensive care bed with total paralysis to the concert platform' Until a serious car accident in 1995, Clarence was sub-principal trumpet with the world-renowned orchestra, Northern Sinfonia.

Drake Music Associate Musician Sam Yates will demonstrate Drake Music’s approach to breaking down disabling barriers to musical participation by using the RAMP It Up! project as an example. Projects focus on using each school's own equipment and fully involving staff in delivering music sessions, to try and ensure a lasting legacy. Activities include playing, performing, recording and learning about music.

Theremin Bollards (Interactive sound gesture devices) Digital Sun Media will be running interactive workshops, demonstrating Theremin Bollards. Theremin Bollards are a fun interactive gesture sound sculpture that anyone can play. A fantastically innovative experience for improvisational performance and designed for multiple creative uses, these amazingly inspiring instruments produce a rich tapestry of expressive sounds.

David Young (Digital Sun Media) David is a music technology teacher, who has over the past 16 months developed interactive devices, suitable for music education, kinaesthetic stimulus, fun interaction and live performance. His passion for music technology and education are fused together within this project with an aim to provide devices that can evoke creativity and freedom of expression.

Yorkshire Youth and Music presents 'Amazing Music Technology'  a project using new and emerging music technologies to enable young people with SEND to participate in creative music-making and gain accreditation.
