Resources links for music tech conference talk (Kinect software)

Here's a list of all the software Noise Solution uses to enable us to work with kinect bars to make music - This is in support of the talk given at music tech conference run by the Garage in Norwich. I wanted those who saw the talk to be able to have access to the software should they need it - below are all the links

I hate to state the obvious but without a kinect bar (roughly £70) the list below will be utterly utterly useless to you...just saying.  disclaimer :)

Here first is a link to an earlier Noise Solution post where we discuss what we have been up to with some video examples of what we have achieved

You need a number of bits of software to make this work and here is what we have chosen to use.

You need a DAW or digital audio workstation. We use Reaper for the following reasons

You need something to translate the kinects information into something your DAW will understand (i.e.midi)

Here is the software written by Chris Vick that takes the camera’s information and transfers it into midi information that your DAW of choice can then use to control soft synths or effects units.

The third bit of software will be redundant within the next few weeks as the software is about to receive an update where this functionality will be replaced but for now for OSX I suggest you use

Synapse

and for PC Osceleton

https://github.com/Sensebloom/OSCeleton

(disclaimer - I only use a mac so have no experience of setting this up with a PC - however as stated it shouldn’t be an issue very shortly)

Hope that at least gets all the relevant bits of kit in one place for you to start exploring.
