Upbeat Project Perform with the Halle Orchestra!

In June 2018, pupils from our primary school participating in The Upbeat Project attended the Bridgewater Hall to play alongside the Halle Orchestra.

The Upbeat Project is a Youth-Music-funded pilot project involving 25 children with special educational needs and/or disabilities from our primary school.  Through learning a musical instrument, taking part in music-making activities and attending concerts and events, children develop confidence, improve speech/language skills and learn musical skills.

Each year the Halle Orchestra run 'Come and Play', an event involving children from across Greater Merseyside.  The children learn songs and instrumental pieces at school, then go to the Bridgewater Hall and play them alongside the Halle.

Children absolutely loved the event.  The performance gave them a focus for their practice at school and encouraged them to work harder.  Performing at such a prestigious venue gave the children confidence.  Many were nervous about performing but loved it once they were there.  The event also broadened the children's musical horizons; most of the group had never seen a live orchestra perform or heard Western Classical music performed live.  To hear professional musicians play the instruments that they too were learning was an incredibly inspring experience.

Thank you to the Halle and to Greater Manchester Music Hub for facilitating this opportunity for our children.
