AQA Unit Award Scheme Resources to certify entry level DJ skills
In partnership with our music hub (LMEP) we have developed these teacher resources with top tips and worksheets for learners.
The resources can be used to help learners certify their progress but can also be submitted to the AQA UAS moderators for a shiny achievement certificate.
They are aimed at music leaders who have some knowledge of DJing already, or who are music practitioners who have done our CPD in DJ skills, but we feel most musical people with access to digital DJ kit, the manuals for the equipment they have, and these resources, could probably support someone.
Most recently we have found these can be used with young people who have been doing our online beginners course in dj skills which only requires a computer and uses just the computer keyboard and free DJ software: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLs3C-VoDc6r4TRIVP-wAZ-p_J9HSF1_f5
The certificates act as accreditations, not qualifications.
They come in three levels. The first level is great for young people with phyisical or learning disabilities who simply want to play their favourite songs using DJ equipment.
By the end of the third level a young person should have a reasonable grasp of basic DJ Skills.
They are also available for Digital DJ, CD DJ or Vinyl DJ depending on which equipment you have available. If you are hoping to use Vinyl equipment it will be much more challenging for non-DJs.
If you want to use the resources they are free to access from this linked page (but you will need to scroll a bit): https://djschooluk.org.uk/lmep-resources-for-schools/
If you need entries accrediting but you are not registered with the AQA UAS please let us know before you start, we can probably administrate on your behalf but there may be fees for admin/certificate production. You can find out more about the AQA UAS here: https://www.aqa.org.uk/programmes/unit-award-scheme
As usual with Youth Music Network members we will be happy to support anyone who wants to try and deliver these. We currently have some funded places for young people to do these with Zoom video support too.
