Young People's Arc - MusicSpace
The second 10 week block of MusicSpace based at the Arc Centre was run by acclaimed singer-songwriter Claire Mooney.
The group included young people who took part in the last block as well as welcoming some new participants. The aims were to get the young people to work together and produce a collaborative piece of music. It took many ice breakers, confidence building games and encouragement before they felt comfortable enough to work in groups, but by the end of the 10 weeks they produced two songs together and every person had contributed. The unexpected outcome was seeing parents and carers joining in – writing lyrics, getting up to the microphone and working together. There was a fantastic atmosphere every week and a lot of laughter! At the end of the project the everyone made cards which were passed round the group to write something that they had learnt about each person in the group.
