Arts Awards for 21 young people in Secure Children’s Homes

Our best news of last week was that 21 young people in Secure Children’s Homes in Yorkshire have achieved a Bronze Arts Award.

They participated in lots of activities, including:

  • creative writing
  • making film soundtracks
  • stop-frame animation
  • beatboxing
  • and a whole variety of different music opportunities

The young people were taking their Arts Award as part of our Music Tracks programme, funded by Youth Music. YY&M has extensive experience working with young people in Youth Justice Settings and you can read our guide for delivering music projects in secure and controlled environments here.

An Arts Award moderator from Trinity College London came to view each child’s porfolio of work, and said:

This has been a really successful Arts Award scheme working with [the] two centres. The opportunities for [the young people] have been creative in inspiring them, building their arts communication skills and confidence. Much has been achieved in getting the young people to be involved and respond. Their responses are heartfelt. Excellent work… Well done on a first award.

A huge well done from all of us at Yorkshire Youth & Music to young people involved!
