Cramlington Voluntary Youth Project (CVYP) and Helix Arts have been working together for two years on the #offthebeat music project.
Young people have taken part in music workshops, residentials, and more; as well as working with professional music artists from a range of disciplines ranging from rap and hip hop to electronica, dance and pop. They have experimented with found sound, making strange musical soundtracks and weird noises. The image on the album cover is of the electronic music soundboard that the Friday night SSN group created with Paddy and Bethan (a visual artist) using electronic paint (who knew there was such a thing?!), copper strips, a base board, speaker, reverb box, spoons and some MDF!
All tracks on the Off The Beat EP have been written and performed by young people from CVYP, produced by Patrick Villiers-Stuart, as part of this fantastic project - this is just a taste of what they've got up to!
Off the Beat EP can be listened to via Soundcloud or Bandcamp - and you can see the music video for track More Doors on Vimeo or YouTube.
With massive thanks to all the staff and young people at CVYP for their time and energy and to our fantastic funders Youth Music for making it happen.
