Beats and Streets

We've been delivering our Beats and Streets project in various locations including Bridgetown. In this short video we document how it is going for Music Leader, Ryan, Young Music Leader, Alhor, and participant, Bethany.

"[In Bridgetown] Young people feel cut off and isolated" Ryan

It has been rewarding on many levels to see such energy being generated in a tiny village hall which sits in the middle of an area which falls into the 20% most deprived communities in England on Employment. Young people like Bethany are benefitting from learning new skills, building confidence and finding new avenues to connect with others in the community.

"I would have never have been able to do this, without this [support]. I've been writing raps, making beats on the TRIS, putting that into my Mac and producing songs on there so..

It's been fun" Bethany

"[My role is to] Get people involved, make sure everyone is happy, try and guide people in the right direction and let them discover themself. Give them the tools... " Alhor.

This work links well with our delivery at the local secondary school where young people can join in and make music during their lunch break.

We really hope that more young people are inspired by Bethany's path into music. It has really build her confidence. Watch this space as we follow her progression through the project.
