The Best Guitars For Beginners During Lockdown
Many people want to start to play the guitar during lockdown for the first time & many people are now taking up online guitar lessons with guitar teachers located around the world. Although lockdown has been difficult for everyone, being able to have spare time to play the guitar or learn something new has been a real plus side for everyone. Here are some guitars that I would recommend for beginners. There are a few electrics and a few acoustics depending on what you want to learn and what style of music you enjoy.
If you are a budding guitarist and interested in learning on acoustic first then I recommend Ibanez because they make a wide range of affordable guitars for beginners and advanced players alike. I particularly recommend this one for beginners because it falls into an affordable price range as well as having a really rich and full sound. The fretboard is rosewood and the guitar has a cutaway to allow easy access to the higher frets. It retails above the £200 mark and if you’re looking for a reliable and fast service then PMT are a great place to purchase this guitar from.
Epiphone has always been known as the little brother of Gibson. But what is often overlooked is the quality of their guitars. Despite not being made in the USA this SG packs an absolute punch of tone & is very light in comparison to other guitars which makes it a great option for beginners who are interested in rocking up their sound. The body and neck are mahogany & the pickups are Alnico Classic Pro Humbuckers which really give you a powerful sound. It retails at around the £350 mark but Andertons are currently selling them for £320 which is an absolute steal.
Fender Squier - Custom Telecaster
Most beginners always think of a fender when they think of electric guitars but what many people overlook these days is that Squier are an amazing alternative for beginner guitarists that want that fender look without having to break the bank. Most people usually think of the Stratocaster but I’ve always preferred the look of the Telecaster. This Classic 70’s model has a bolt-on neck & is very lightweight. The pickups are usually single coil on a telecaster but this one has a humbucker in the neck position which opens up so many more playing opportunities. This guitar retails at around £320 at Andertons.
PRS are a company not often associated with acoustic guitars but in the past 5 years they have started releasing a few ranges of acoustic guitars and they do not disappoint. This guitar is an electro acoustic guitar which is great for singer songwriters who want to start learning to play the guitar as well. The guitar boasts a fishman GT1 pickup as well as a solid sitka spruce and mahogany construction. It’s a little more expensive than the others and retails around the £500 mark but GuitarGuitar have a deal at the moment for £400 which can be almost £200 off the retail price of the guitar.
Last but not least I had to add a guitar that is more suited to those who love hard rock and metal and want to start playing guitar. This H-200 is a great sounding and well constructed guitar that allows you to reach killer tones for an affordable price. I would say that this is one of the ebay guitars you can find at this mid price range. The guitar has two ESP humbuckers that have a really aggressive tone as well as a coil split for extra control over the guitar. It costs around £500 at GuitarGuitar but can sometimes be found for cheaper at other retailers.
