The Black Bawlerz release new album

12 photos of the 3 members of the band

Carousel started working with Luke, Daniel and Thomas in 2018 following a talent search funded by Youth Music Foundation and in partnership with St John’s College, Brighton where they were learners, and during a series of workshops, The Black Bawlerz were formed.

Carousel took the band under their wing and is helping to develop the band’s profile through music production, recordings and gigs. Working with expert facilitators, a series of original pieces were composed in the rehearsal room, and during lockdown, via weekly Zoom sessions. Working remotely was an interesting experience and we had to make alterations to sessions to ensure we were able to maintain excitement and engagmment of the band members. Sessions became shorter and more regular and we used different activities to allow all members to develop their musical and lyrical ideas. By the end of the summer 2020, the band had written 8 songs and we started working together on producing an EP. The band continued to meet regularly online to shape the recordings and came together during breaks in restrictions to record their vocals for the upcoming album.

It has been great to get the band together and keep going during lockdown. I am excited about the album, it is going to be super awesome Luke

My favourite songs on the album are Orange Sunshine, Lockdown, Keep On Rolling, Sneezel the Weasel, The Musicals…I like to be on all the music!! Daniel

Luke has been rehearsing all afternoon and had probably sung himself a bit hoarse! It was wonderful to see him putting in so much work Parent

The self-titled debut will be released via Carousel’s FairGround label and features 8 varied, catchy tracks. Lyrically, the band range from joyful (The Musicals, Party Fusion) to surreal (Sneezel The Weasel, Rollie Yeah!) but regardless, every song seems to get stuck in your head! Two tracks have been made available on pre-release and check out the full album from next week at www.fairground.bandcamp.com.

FairGround Records is a division of Carousel, a learning-disability led arts charity working in music, film, digital art and training. All its work is planned and managed by the artists themselves, providing access to the arts for performers and audiences. http://carousel.org.uk
