Carve your own path. Be a maverick.
Music Fusion are a young person friendly recording studio near Portsmouth. We were delighted to have received some funding from Youth Music to deliver a year long project, recording an album / documentary, culminating in a mini album launch tour. However, 2020 had other plans for Music Fusion and our young people.
In early March I got some advice that when you ‘hit black ice’ you need to ‘steer into the skid’ to survive. When our recording studio shut down a week later we took a brave move and bought 5 industry standard, high quality, mobile recording studios. If the young people couldn’t come to the studio, we would go to them… connecting to the young person’s studio remotely of course.
The plan worked. We continued to deliver high quality music sessions through out the year. When our main recording studio re-opened in August we ended up running all 6 studios simultaneously. Due to the creativity, imagination, initiative and sheer drive to succeed, from both our music leaders and our young people, the album is now complete and available on all streaming platforms. We launched the album with a high quality, multi camera live stream and released a 16 part accompanying documentary. If I am honest we did need a months extension to the programme to get everything done.
The albums name is ‘Mavericks 3’. The idea behind the project is simple. We say ‘don’t just follow everyone else. Don’t be a sheep. If you have to…carve your own path.’
It is a delight to see our music leaders and young people take this so literally. This album is proof that even against the odds, if you carve your own path, you may well succeed.
