Circle of Light Album and Launch Event on World Mental Health Day
After the writing and recording process finished in August, the hard work was by no means over for the Circle of Light project. All focus was then put on the lead up to the album release and live show on the 10th October 2019.
On completion of the mixing and mastering of the album, there was time for a listening session before going into the planning and rehearsals for the live event. Radio appearances from participants and practitioners, as well as a documentary following the project on BBC Inside Out, built local excitement around the album. Then in no time, it was the day of the launch and event. With a packed out Metronome, the event was both a showcase and celebration of the talent and accomplishments of the participants and practitioners. Compèred by course leader Scor-zay-zee, the young people took the stage to perform the album tracks live before closing with an appearance of broadcaster Summaya Mughal who performed her rap which features on the album in a track also featuring Frank Benbini (Uncle Frank, Fun Lovin' Criminal's drummer and broadcaster).
Participant Mae described the night as the following: "Last night was probably one of the best nights I’ve ever had. I felt alive on that stage and gave my everything and it seems the crowd agreed! My experience with Circle Of Light has been life changing and I just can’t be anymore grateful. I explored new genres of music and have two songs with me on them out on Bandcamp and hopefully other streaming services too later on with the album"
