Confidence

VIDEO AND IMAGES TO FOLLOW!

Final reflection on my challenge: I’m so proud of how far I’ve come over the past few months. For years I was always scared to sing in front of people and now I’ve overcome it! If anything I’ve exceeded my action plan - I performed in front of a large audience and I’m already making plans to do it again at our next showcase. I can definitely say my confidence has gotten much better, I’ve seen it cross over into my workplace. I feel more comfortable speaking up and I just think...if I’ve managed to sing in front of that many people then I can easily present that at work! I enjoyed a number of things about being on stage...for one the whole atmosphere. It’s really different hearing yourself sing with a mic compared to without. Hearing my voice echo around the room was quite overwhelming but the reaction from the audience was great. They were a lovely bunch and really calmed my nerves. I really enjoyed the acoustics, the way my djembe was sounding and the sound check really added value to the way my performance was projected. I would say I could have given more eye contact with the audience...this is something I need to work on and try to do without losing focus of what I’m doing. Talking with the audience more is something to also be improved, but I think this will come with practice and time. The most important lesson I learned is that if you want to do something then you really should just do it. I don’t know why I was so afraid it wasn’t half as bad as I thought it was going to be!
