Creative and Wellbeing Music Practitioners

Job description

Our vision is to create a world where everyone can thrive and succeed through music, arts and culture. West of England Music and Arts provides music, arts and education programmes across the West of England and the South-West region.  We are currently expanding our programme of creative, inclusive and wellbeing-focused provision and we are looking for progressive practitioners to join our team!

We are recruiting for the following roles: Creative Practitioners (Lead & Supporting roles) Wellbeing Practitioners

We are looking for creative music practitioners to join our pool of staff to support the delivery of inclusive music programmes across Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. Programmes may include an Inclusive Ensemble, Inclusive Choir, and a Creative Band as well as work in SEND and mainstream schools, music centres and community spaces. 

Some work will be at weekends and during school holidays, so we are interested to hear from people with this availability. We are looking for musicians across a range of instruments, musical styles and cultural backgrounds – instrumentalists, singers, producers and DJs are all welcome and encouraged to apply! We will recruit practitioners for both leading and supporting roles, depending on experience.

We are looking for wellbeing practitioners to join our Music Therapy and Wellbeing team who may have skills in wellbeing/therapeutic ways of working as well as inclusive music education. You may be someone who is training to be a music therapist or who has developed skills through work at alternative education settings, Social Emotional Mental Health settings or specials needs settings with a particular wellbeing or therapeutic focus.

Employed hourly rates are currently £38 for Lead/Wellbeing Practitioners, and £32 for Supporting Practitioners. Freelance contracts may be available for some programmes.

Lead Creative Practitioners

Essential Skills & Qualities:

  • At least one year of experience leading creative music-making
  • High level of musical skill
  • Extensive experience working with children and young people
  • Experience working with disabled young people and those with additional needs
  • A high level of skill in improvisation and working without notation
  • Confident in planning and delivering music sessions to meet a wide range of young people’s needs
  • A commitment to enabling youth voice and autonomy
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development/training
  • Understanding and confidence in behaviour management
  • Current Public Liability Insurance (for freelance contracts)
  • Current DBS certificate on the update service (if you are not on the update service we can arrange a new check).

Supporting Creative Practitioners

Essential Skills and Qualities:

  • At least one year of experience leading or supporting formal or informal music-making
  • High level of musical skill
  • At least one year of experience working with children and young people
  • Experience working with disabled young people and those with additional needs
  • An interest and commitment to working creatively (including away from notation)
  • Ability to improvise and compose music
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development/training
  • Understanding of behaviour management
  • Current Public Liability Insurance (for freelance contracts)
  • Current DBS certificate on the update service (if you are not on the update service we can arrange a new check).

Wellbeing Practitioners

Essential Skills & Qualities:

  • Experience and understanding in an ethos of practice that fosters wellbeing and promotes positive mental health through music
  • Ability to support social, emotional and mental health needs that can be displayed across a range of presentations: physical, cognitive and mental health
  • At least one year of experience facilitating wellbeing groups or projects
  • High level of musical skill used within a wellbeing/therapeutic way of working
  • An awareness and some knowledge of a trauma sensitive approach
  • Extensive experience working with children and young people and adults
  • Experience working with disabled young people and adults and those with additional needs
  • A high level of skill in improvisation
  • A commitment to enabling youth voice and autonomy
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development/training
  • Current DBS certificate on the update service (if you are not on the update service we can arrange a new check)
