Gain -NOW CANCELLED - please read below
Event description
It is with a very heavy heart that we have to cancel our “Gain” event on 6th Oct at the Prince Of Wales, Brixton. Although we have invested time, money and effort and although all of you have been so incredibly supportive with your offers of activities and attendance, we are sad to report that we have all been let down by one of the partners involved.
To try and keep things simple – A prospective future partner of DJ School UK's who are big players in the DJ/Club promotion industry had planned to do a fund-raising event at the venue. The funds would have been for a joint venture planned between them and us. When the venue heard that these promoters aimed to raise funds for DJ School UK they offered us the daytime for free. As you know we jumped at the idea and got you all involved. Unfortunately it turns out the DJ/Club promoters have not prepared sufficiently for the event. We have done our best to keep things moving forwards with the venue, but repeated missed deadlines for announcing line ups and promotion by our partners have left the venue unconvinced there will be sufficient attendance at the evening party. Because they are not charging any venue hire it will be a loss making event. On this basis they felt they had no option but to cancel and organise something for themselves to ensure a full club that night.
We at DJ School UK have learnt hard lessons about who to consider as partners, and how much for-profit companies can be trusted to really invest in not-for-profit causes. All our plans for future partnership, including our hopes of expanding into bigger premises, with these club promoters are now cancelled. We are managing to maintain good relations with The Prince of Wales who will support future events if we source more reliable evening promoters.
As we are such a small company we dare not name and shame the larger for-profit promotions company as we fear their publicity machine could spin this against us.
We can only go back to doing what we do best – which is engaging hard to reach and disadvantaged young people in creative musical skills.
We are so sorry for the loss of your invested time. We made a serious error in the partners we trusted and you have all had your time wasted because of this error. We understand if you do but hope you don't think less of us because of this. We will learn from it and will continue to work hard to grow organically into a sustainable not-for-profit business.
We did promise this event would be free to you and so cannot offer refunds but if you have already incurred costs such as travel tickets or otherwise we will do our best to reimburse you. Please just get in touch and we will honestly try and do what we can, although costs incurred by young people and non-profit organisations will be prioritised over for-profit orgs.
