Here Come the Grrrls: Fiona Daniel drumming course

Event description

We’re now taking applications for 1-to-1 personalised beginner drum lessons with experienced contemporary drummer and DJ Fiona Daniel. Part of our Here Come The Grrrls season of women in music, the course will offer five places to female drummers aged 11-24. No experience of drumming is needed.

Here Come The Grrrls is an exciting free programme of residencies, masterclasses, courses, debates and discussions designed to celebrate, profile and inspire female musicians.  It is our positive response to low levels of female participation that is mirror by the gender gap in the music industry.

“Airily cool, futuristic and rough and punky” – iDJ

Fiona is one of the Manchester’s most exciting contemporary drummers. She has played with five signed acts including The Whip and The Noisettes, and for number one selling Swedish artist Robyn. Fiona has toured the world, recorded on several albums and played live sessions at legendary studios such as BBC Maida Vale.   Her band The Whip, signed to Fatboy Slim’s label, have performed to great acclaim at Glastonbury, Latitude, Glade and Manchester International Festival.

Watch Fiona drumming with The Whip on YouTube, listen on MySpace and follow her on Facebook and Twitter.

From promising locals to the coolest unsigned band on the globe within eight months” – Artrocker

This is a fantastic opportunity for beginner drummers to develop their skills and confidence, bringing their own ideas to the sessions and developing their technique each week. The sessions will start on Mon 7 Sept, running in half hour blocks with Fiona putting together a personalised nine-week tuition plan for each pupil.
