In Perfect Harmony – Partnerships for learning at KS3 music

Event description

KS3 music is the highest level at which music education is a statutory entitlement for all young people in UK state schools. However, many music teachers struggle to make the KS3 classroom the dynamic and musical learning environment they wish it to be and arts organisations often report facing significant challenges in engaging with teachers and school music at KS3.

This workshop builds on debates between cultural organisations and teachers that took place as part of the Teach Through Music KS3 Music professional development programme (2014-15). It provides a forum for cultural partners to gain further insight into learning from Teach Through Music – from the Project Director and a participating teacher - to share experiences and think creatively about next steps in developing the role of arts and cultural organisations in supporting KS3 Music.

Participants can expect to deepen their understanding of KS3 music in London schools and the priorities of teachers before taking time to consider ways of engaging with schools. The afternoon will focus on professional learning and how this can be embedded in relationships between cultural organisations and schools.

This workshop is led by Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance as part of the Music Excellence London partnership. It is open to all, including organisations outside of London and those not previously involved in Teach Through Music or Music Excellence London.
