Another Successful Year of Musical Inclusion for North Yorkshire
As we move into another financial year, we’ve been looking back over the past 18 months of the NYMAZ Musical Inclusion programme.
Since September 2012, and thanks to our many delivery partners, our 20 Musical Inclusion projects have engaged with 2770 children and young people from 0 to 19 years old, in 59 rural locations across North Yorkshire. Covering a huge range of musical genres and activities, from junk percussion, to folk, to Latin jazz; singing and signing to instrument-making, our Cold Spot projects have reached some of the most rurally isolated communities in the county, while our Breakthrough projects have tackled particular areas of need by forming new partnerships.
In addition to the projects themselves, we’ve also provided 124 music leaders and practitioners with valuable professional development opportunities (and that’s not including the 165 other music practitioners who attended our Networking activities!).
We’ll soon be announcing a brand new programme of Cold Spot projects, as part of the NYMAZ Musical Inclusion programme for 2014-15. Watch this space for news of eight exciting new projects, including a creative composition project taking inspiration from the Wharram Percy heritage site in the Ryedale Wolds; a folk music project in Botton and the Esk Valley near Whitby; young people’s jazz and improvisation ensembles in Craven and Richmondshire; and a series of workshops and professional performances at rural schools in Ryedale, Pateley Bridge and Grassington.
