Identifying Musical Talent and Potential - Free webinar
Event description
On Thursday 25 April, Awards for Young Musicians (AYM) invite you to an online introductory session to their acclaimed Identifying Musical Talent and Potential training (ITP). Delivered for free thanks to AYM’s Arts Council NPO funding, ITP tackles one of the biggest obstacles to young people’s musical progress – identifying those with talent and potential, especially in whole class or larger group settings.
This inclusive classroom approach offers a different lens through which to spot the musical spark in your students, which might otherwise go unnoticed. In this session you will explore the 8 Facets of Musical Potential framework through musical games and observation, including our filmed resources.
Sessions have previously been delivered across England – online and in-person – as part of Hub INSET days, at conferences or as twilight training sessions. For the first time ever, this session provides the opportunity to attend as an individual.
This training will be of interest to peripatetic teachers, whole-class teachers, ensemble leaders, primary class teachers, secondary music specialists, music students and trainee music leaders.
Spaces are limited so save the date and book your spot now to avoid disappointment.

Testimonials
Feedback is an integral part of the programme, a creative and collaborative environment paired with a rigorous evaluation process has enabled us to develop the training, giving us a framework to utilise in multiple educational settings. You can find out what teachers, hub leads and our facilitators have to say below. You can watch a short film about the training here.
“The training session was one of the best sessions I have experienced in a long time. I can really see the benefits for classroom teachers who are both specialist and non-specialists as well as the music hub workforce.” Mark Steele, Music Lead for Coventry Music Hub
“As a more experienced teacher it was a really helpful session – one of the best I’ve been to!” Secondary Head of Music, Birmingham
“Watching the films reminded me to build more child-led play into my sessions so that I have time to observe students making music and identify potential or missed opportunities.” Instrumental music teacher
