As part of Sound Connections promise and commitment to anti-racism, diversity and inclusion, we are dedicating our 2021 two-day conference to diversifying the workforce in music education.
Through a series of online talks, provocations, discussions and workshops we will explore in theory and practice what ongoing changes and actions organisations and individuals can take to be more inclusive and diverse in their music education practice.
This event will provide a safe space for meaningful discussions, and will provide the opportunity for online networking and sharing. Youth Voice will be at the heart of this event, with members of the Wired4Music community being integral to the facilitation and discussion.
- Day 1 will focus on systemic and structural change. What steps can music education organisations (for example Music Education Hubs, grassroots music organisations, schools, higher education institutions) take to confront structural racism and other forms of oppression of marginalised communities.
- Day 2 will explore what strategies individual practitioners can employ to ensure their work with children and young people is inclusive.
An advisory group has been established and is working to advise on content, format and structure, plus a group of members from Wired4Music are involved in the planning. We are committed to ensuring that this event provides a platform for important voices from marginalised communities to be heard.
Book ahead to receive an early bird rate. Content will be released later this term.
*Delegates will receive all video recordings following the event
