Event description

This pair of introductory courses provides a solid introduction to current child protection and safeguarding legislation, along with information on the Prevent Duty, so that you can embed best practice within your organisation. Created specifically for the arts, culture and heritage sectors, these courses are ideal for frontline workers, volunteers, chaperones and those that come into contact directly with children and young people.

*Each course can be booked individually, or book both together to ensure a comprehensive overview of current child protection issues.

Introduction to Child Protection & Safeguarding, 11am – 1pm

Build your team’s confidence with this light touch introduction to child protection and safeguarding. This half-day course provides practical advice to help build confidence around child protection issues with the context of developing and delivering creative and cultural projects.

You will gain:

  • An introduction to current child protection legislation and best practice
  • Information on how to handle disclosure
  • ‘Safe Touch’ information, covering how child protection guidelines can be maintained within more physical art forms

Introduction to Prevent, 2pm – 4pm

Take the fear out of the Prevent agenda and begin to apply it to your own policies and practice, with a focus on promoting wellbeing in an inclusive and supportive environment. Learn how to confidently fulfil Prevent responsibilities within an arts and cultural setting, and consider how to embed the British Values at the heart of this in your work with children and young people.

You will gain:

  • An introduction on the Prevent duty
  • Creative approaches to promote wellbeing within arts and cultural projects
  • Ideas for embedding British Values in an inclusive and supportive environment
  • Clarity on how to identify young people at risk
