Johnny Marr joins care experienced young people in GMYN music production workshop
Looked after children and care leavers in Ardwick showcased their musical talents to Johnny Marr this month in Greater Manchester Youth Network’s (GMYN) basement music studio.
The Ardwick-born music legend visited the charity to take part in the music production programme ‘Boom Box’. The group performed their own compositions and took the opportunity to quiz Marr on his musical success.
GMYN creates opportunities for disadvantaged young people from across Greater Manchester. ‘Boom Box’ provides care experienced young people with the chance to create their own songs and music videos whilst gaining confidence with other young people from similar backgrounds. The programme is funded by Youth Music and delivered in partnership with Memody CIC.
Morgan, a participant on ‘Boom Box’, said,
“Meeting Johnny Marr was absolutely brilliant! He gave me an insight into what it’s really like being a famous musician. Things are hard but you keep going – he proved you don’t have to let fame change who you are.
