Latest Youth Music Funding Awards Update - Fund A21
For our last Fund A round, we awarded 35 projects around the country a grant of up to £30,000 each. Here’s a summary of some of the projects receiving investment – a complete list can be found at the end of this blog post. Over half of successful organisations are receiving funding directly from Youth Music for the first time.
Annapurna Indian Dance (Yorkshire & The Humber) will be delivering digital music sessions on developing awareness on various aspects of Indian music. Sessions will include singing and rhythm techniques.
Beautiful Ideas Company (North West) will be running a project called 'Breaking The Record'. They'll be engaging 220 girls and young women, building upon the success of their two inspirational female-led music skills development programmes - accessing and emerging female professional musicians and those working/hoping to work in and across the music industry across the North West and beyond to next level creative excellence.
Big Leaf Foundation (South East) are delivering a collaborative songwriting project between young people from local and displaced communities, who will work together across language and cultural barriers to write, perform and record a song reflecting the input of everyone in this diverse group. The project will be led by professional musicians from different musical backgrounds.
CLIP Sound and Music (East of England) will empower young people to compose and perform new music through collaboration, improvisation and creative risk taking.
CoMA (National), Contemporary Music for All are running 'My Sounds'; an 8-month youth mentoring scheme in contemporary classical music. Participants will undergo monthly workshops with esteemed mentors, exploring creative approaches to composition and music performance, with the overall goal of developing and premiering a new work in the 2022 CoMA Festival.
Nottingham Community Artist Network (East Midlands) will be focused on the music-making development and the mental health and wellbeing of participants coming out of lockdown. There will be multiple projects across professional music studios across the City and County, delivering urban and dance-based music production sessions to underserved 16-18 years old.
The RecShop (London) runs out of a space in Wood Green shopping centre. They'll be running 2 projects that will enable disadvantaged young people to access music through The RecShop's recording studio, workshops and events.
Sage Gateshead (North East) are running an Early Years project, Loud and Clear (LAC), which will will develop the musical skills, confidence and bonds of care experienced children and their families through music-making and hands-on play.
Sound Communities (South West) will deliver a music based programme of wellbeing support, personal development and work experience for 15 vulnerable and at risk young people. They will receive 21 hours of one to one support and music skills development using a trauma informed approach followed by 21 hours music based work experience.
Tanayah Sam Sport and Education CIC (West Midlands) will provide young people with music studio taster sessions and in-depth music studio based courses and support them with access to music industry based training or employment opportunities.
Youth Music currently support over 500 music projects around the country every year, helping over 90,000 children and young people to make, learn and earn in music. We are supported by the National Lottery via Arts Council England, the People’s Postcode Lottery and through other charitable donations.
