Latest Youth Music Funding Awards Update - Fund A23
For our last Fund A round, we awarded 33 projects around the country a grant of up to £30,000 each.
Here’s a summary of some of the projects receiving investment – a complete list can be found at the end of this blog post.
The Boom Dang Foundation (North West) will deliver weekly music sessions at Cooke's Studios in Barrow-in-Furness. They'll continue to build a workforce by delivering our Advanced Traineeship that is specific to working with Looked After Children.
Cosmopolitan Arts (East Midlands) will work with 90 disadvantaged and disengaged children and young people so they can enjoy inspiring, free, weekly, music-making session (instrument tuition; ensemble work; composition; stagecraft; music understanding and appreciation) over 20 weeks intensive summer school, focussing on jazz.
Drum Works CIC (London) will be based at Mayesbrook School and over a two-year period, pupils will participate in weekly drumming sessions led by professional musicians, collaborate with students from other schools, perform to peers, families and staff and showcase their achievements at high-profile events.
Evolve Music (South West) will be providing regular music sessions in Bristol and BANES (Bath and North East Somerset) for 0-2 year olds of Dads who are experiencing mental health difficulties linked to pregnancy and birth. We aim to achieve this by focussing on the community of practice around the child and child-centred development.
Phizzical Productions (National) will be running the project 'Bombay Elevation', a dynamic, 9-month music-making & commissioning programme, engaging 30 vulnerable young people aged 18-25. Sessions will work across popular Bollywood styles, fusing classical with modern instrumental sounds, and vocals. Alongside a commissioning process (career development), we will explore composition, improvisation, lyric-writing, recording, video creation and performance.
Shabang Inclusive Learning (Yorkshire & The Humber) will run programme of work spanning babies with a diagnosis of additional needs through to children up to 7 years with additional needs and autism. The child centred activities will include singing, signing, multi sensory techniques, use of instruments, rhythm and movement.
Theatre School (East of England) will run run three sessions with three different teachers: a singing teacher, a ukulele teacher and a drumming teacher. Each teacher will have around 12 students in their session, teaching students the technical skills required to play or use their voice as an instrument.
Young Women's Music Project (South East) will support the development of women and non binary people of diverse backgrounds in music in Oxford: training up two freelance leaders to support 14-17 year olds to express themselves and gain skills through an Arts Award during two courses in two community settings.
We Make Culture CIC (North East) will be running Young Musicians Project, a programme consisting of two regular groups who meet on a weekly basis during term time to allow young people to explore their interests in music. They will be given professional and peer support to develop their song writing and performance skills with like-minded people.
Worcester Snoezelen (West Midlands) will be delivering We will deliver 1:1 music sessions for children and young people aged 2 to 25; group music sessions for children aged 0 to 5; and Rock School with young people aged 16 to 25.
