A Learning Curve

In the true spirit of 'better late then never' Steelworks are now delivering online real steel activities for our young particpants, in addition to app based resources. The steel pan project, funded by YM, enables us to work specifically with children and young people with autism.

From the first few months of starting to deliver actvities  we encountered more or less the same problems as all music projects (Globally I suspect !) during the pandemic. Mindful of the particpular needs of our particpants, and working closely with our partner special school, MUSINC, fund C grant holder, and the North East Autism Society, we endeavoured to provide appropriate actvities during lockdown and school closure periods. Our main obstacle was providing steel pans on a loan (free of charge basis). Thanks to YM we now have some suitable instruments that can be used in homes and provide activities to keep our young people engaged and able to feel a sense of 'steel band'.
