New competition: students submit songs for a brand new musical Fidel - about Fidel Castro and the Cuban revolution

Write songs for ‘Fidel’, a musical about Fidel Castro and the Cuban revolution

Coming after Easter! This is a free, exciting and educational competition for the summer and/or autumn term open to UK schools, colleges and universities.   The University of Southampton invites students to compose and submit their own songs for Fidel – a musical about Fidel Castro and the Cuban revolution.

This is especially relevant to music students, but also to students studying English, history, politics, international relations or Spanish who can contribute lyrics.

Students can express their creativity and have a chance to have their song chosen to be in Fidel – the musical. Students also get to learn about the world’s longest standing political leader – Fidel Castro and the Cuban socialist revolution. Students can learn more about cult figures such as Che Guevara and events such as the Bay of Pigs invasion and the Cuban missile crisis. Cuba has a lot to teach us, from their vibrant music, dance and culture, to their historical and political role as a small island caught up in Cold War politics, as well as the ethical dilemmas of leadership.
