Listen Up: Music for ages 3-7
An inspiring day of practical workshops, talks, showcase performances and networking opportunities for all those who make music with Early Years children.
Music in the Round's Listen Up conference was a resounding success!
The delegates that participated in the day thoroughly enjoyed themselves and most felt more confident and better equipped to use music to facilitate learning in all subjects. What was surprising was that 85% of delegates had never been to a Music in the Round concert before and 74% had never been involved in any of our Music in the Community projects. Every delegate that attended was enthusiastic and passionate about developing music provision in early years settings and wanted to connect with other practitioners in the field. Many delgates felt like they often did not get the chance to network with others in the field and it came across that this was a valuable aspect that needs to be made easier and facilitated by events such as Listen Up.
Delegates also attended two concerts given by Ensemble 360 and Polly Ives which engaged almost 1800 children and teachers from across the city; some also brought along their parents to join in the fun. Children had been learning the songs in their settings and really enjoyed joining in with the songs and actions.
The day showcased the pioneering work that MitR leads in the field of early-years music. It was part of the year-long Soundplay project, generously funded by Youth Music, that is specifically targeted at increasing high-quality music provision for early-years children in schools and nurseries and at home, aiming to develop resources, confidence, and skills.
