Local Bands set to compete to perform at OMG Live 2014

OMG Live is a great opportunity for young local talented bands to get an amazing chance to perform on stage at the LG Arena in Birmingham in April and receive a music industry support package.

This includes taking part in a master class led by professional musicians to hone skills, gain valuable tips, make a name for themselves on stage and potentially make useful contacts for the future.

All 14 West Midlands local authorities will be putting a band forward that will get to perform at OMG Live on 24 April alongside Lawson and other well known acts.

The seven local bands competing for a chance to perform are:-

The Making (local band who won the chance to perform at T-Live in 2013)

Young Braves

Sixth Deduction

The Ashes

Searching for Alice

Monkey Riffle

Remynie-Kiah Faith

Each of the seven shortlisted acts will perform three songs to a panel of independent judges when they go to Oakengates Theatre @ The Place in 23 January.

Two of the three songs will be the bands own compositions and the third song will be chosen from a provided playlist for the bands to play their own unique interpretation.

Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Leisure Service and Culture, said: “I think the opportunities being created in Telford and Wrekin for local bands to be heard and perform to large audiences is fantastic.

“Just last year local bands The Making and Madison won the Band Slam competition which meant they got to perform at this year’s T-Live ahead of the likes of Stooshe and McFly in front of crowds of over 3000 and now we’re giving a band the opportunity to play at Birmingham’s LG Arena.

“Telford is brimming over with talent and events such as these allow us to celebrate all that talent on a larger scale and provide some recognition for all the hard work these young people are putting in to be heard.”

OMG Live 2014 is part of Telford & Wrekin Music Education Hub’s offer and programme for children and young people across Telford and Wrekin to access musical opportunities.

This special selection event for the shortlisted bands on 23 January promises to be a great night for anyone who enjoys live music.

The evening begins at 7pm with advance tickets costing £4.  Tickets are also available on the door at £5 each.
