Nicola’s Ten Pieces Live Music Lesson

Ten Pieces, the BBC’s initiative to open up the world of classical music to children, is excited to announce a very special music lesson led by Ten Pieces Ambassador and internationally acclaimed Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti, hosted live by Barney Harwood from Blue Peter.

Nicola, a former BBC Young Musician of the year, accompanied by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra will perform some of the Ten Pieces live, along with some young musicians from primary schools in Scotland.

Thousands of children watching at home or at school throughout the UK, will be encouraged to join in with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra during a live interactive version of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony – one of the ten pieces.  They will learn about rhythm and pitch as they play along using percussion instruments. Nicola will also share her top musical tips as well as telling us about her own musical journey, from first lesson through to performing in the world’s great concert halls.

This live event will be webcast from the BBC’s Scotland headquarters in Glasgow. Barney Harwood, Nicola and conductor Steven Bell, will help to explain how an orchestra works to create its unique sound.

Aimed at primary school children, the event will be streamed live on the BBC Ten Pieces website – www.bbc.co.uk/tenpieces -  on the 10th November from 10:00am. It will also be available online on the Ten Pieces website after the live streaming.
