Liam's Story
Liam told us his story about the GMYN Boom Box programme.
"I have been coming since August to GMYN, I've been working with the team there to make and record music. In my spare time I write lyrics about my life and my experiences, but I've never recorded them before, I've not had the opportunity to make music that reflects my lyrics. The team have been really supportive of me and all my ideas, and I've made a couple of great tracks I'm really proud of. I have also made some friends through the sessions and we have spent time togehter outside of the sessions.
I've made 3 songs at Boom Box since I started coming. 'Experience' was the first song I made that I was happy with; it's a feel good 'day in life' anthem about my life in the present day, looking towards my future. I also have a new song called 'Cross' that I wrote after my nan gave me a cross necklace as a gift. The piano from 'Cross' was created by someone else who comes to the sessions, Imad."
Nick, the programme Co-ordinator said "Liam has been regularly coming to Boom Box sessions for the last few months and has progressed tremendously, he has really started to focus on differnet aspects of being creative, and started telling his story through his creations. I think the programme has really helped him process what is going on in his life outside of the programme".
Boom Box is a youth music funded programme, for more information on Boom Box please visit the GMYN website.
