Lifesize: Looking back on the first year of running a new music and arts for wellbeing organisation

After spending almost ten years working for the inspirational carousel.org.uk and some other great organisations I am now focusing on developing Lifesize, a Community Interest Company I co-founded towards the end of 2019.

We are developing a community arts and music provision based in the coastal town of Hastings in the South East of England as well as exploring working further afield in our county and beyond, collaborating with other arts organisations nationally and internationally, supporting vulnerable people to access a high quality arts and music for wellbeing service.

We are grateful to have received support from a number of charitable trusts and foundations as well as The National Lottery and Arts Council England in our first year which gave us essential support to get our work underway.

From the perspective of being a music / arts facilitator who has worked for such great organisations in the past, it felt both exciting and also a bit intimidating turning my attention to co-founding a new not for profit organisation of our own.

I have been fortunate enough to have received a broad grounding in my work with other established community arts and education organisations. A big thankyou to those who supported my development at Carousel, Rhythmix and DV8 training. They gave me the right blend of space and support and enabled me to nurture my ideas, supporting me to develop my own community music and arts practice. I look forward to sharing in this blog more about the first year of this exciting journey.
