MACA launches A journey to music programme
After a month of planning, we were really exctied to be able to launch or Journey to Music Programme. The programme is aimed at young people aged 6 to 25 yrs old from across Kent and Medway, that aims to develop young people in the art of music production, singing and songwriting. The project coordinator, Ola, project adminstrator, young people and Chairperson developed a project plan, and began engaging with potential tutors who could deliver the programme. The project administrator, Yeni, is very artistic and was able to design the flyers to promote the project. Ola , the project coordinator organised meetings with the team to work out a timetable, course objevtives and lesson plan.
The project has not been without its challenges as we struggled to find the right singing and songwriting tutor that was local, available, within budget and understod the ethos of the programme . However Ola persevered and in the end was able to find a local very talented tutor who has experience of the music industry, and has appeared as a finaist on the X factor. Ola was also able to secure a tutor for music production with a wealth of experience, and works as a tutor in this field at Mid Kent College.
We have had a lot of support from Medway Council, Youth Services and and working closely with local schools to promote the project.
We had an amazing response from young people as soon as it went out. Our first workshop took place on 25th September, attended by 12 young people, and they all had a great time. We are looking forward to our singing and songwriting workshop on the 2nd October with Shylo.
A press release was sent out to our local press, and also featured on our website www.macacharity.org.uk
